Unique Diving experience at Easter Island
Scuba Diving program in Rapa Nui with Exploring Chile Travel
The most transparent waters in the Pacific are found in Rapa Nui, with an average of 35 m visibility and a temperature of 25 degrees in the summer and 21ºC in winter. These conditions allow us to dive 10 out of 12 months of the year, with October to April being the best months.
The Rapa Nui sea beds offer large coral reefs, tropical fish in a variety of colors, large sea turtles, the largest coral (as a unit) in the world, and of course the enigmatic sunken Moai. These are the large tourist attractions for people who love scuba diving.
In Rapa Nui we work with one of the oldest and with the most experience dive center, with great infrastructure. The dive center has three boats, for 6, 10 and 15 passengers respectively, an air bank to fill 4 tanks simultaneously, a large variety of scuba equipment, and a first class staff with 2 PADI Instructors and 6 Divemasters. This diving program is an excellent choice to enjoy a calm and transparent sea with all the magic of Easter Island.

Dive locations
Easter Island has many dive locations, from 10 m depth to 40 m, for divers who have the appropriate certification. But it is not necessary to be an advanced diver to be able to dive in Easter Island, since at less than 18 m depth we have many dive locations, which means that relatively inexperienced divers can enjoy our programs. Also, dives can be done at each dive location for beginners as well as for advanced divers.
Details of the dive locations
– Omohi: This place is known for its large amount of underwater fauna, since it is the furthest from Hanga Roa, meaning that it is less visited by divers and fishermen (40 m.)
– El Jardín (The Garden): As its name indicates, this point is outstanding due to its amount of flora, different types of coral, along with the typical fauna of the island, making the island a very popular place for divers, (30 m.)
– El Puente (The Bridge) : We divers are all interested in knowing and touring natural wonders: the bridge is an arch formed by different volcanic eruptions undergone by the island in its formation. (40 m.)
– La Catedral (The Cathedral): Is a group of 3 naturally formed caverns, inside which are found a diversity of underwater fauna that is not commonly found overseas. In the caverns we will find lobsters, coiros (conger eel), octopuses and different fish that are typical of Rapa Nui, which can only be seen in night divers outside the caverns (15 m.)
– Coral Gigante (Giant Coral) : The island is surrounded by a coral reef, but the world’s largest (as a unit) coral in the world is also found here, with a diameter of 9 m and a height of 12 m (18 m)
– Tortugas (Turtles) : Although turtles are animals that are easily found in Rapa Nui, since we see them eat in the fishermen’s coves, as well as on the beaches, this diving location concentrates a large number of giant sea turtles, and these along with their families accompany the divers during each dive. (20 m)
– Underwater Moai: Doubtless one of the most important sights of Rapa Nui are the Moais, figures that represent a king or an important person from the different tribes that gave life to this culture. We also find a statue in the water, which is the only one available for divers to also appreciate part of history. (22m)
– Acantilado (Cliffs): This circuit begins by visiting a large coral reef and along with this, different anchors that were abandoned many years ago. Along the route to the cliffs we will find large families of Po o Po, which are a species of mackerel that inhabit this sector, and it is very likely that large schools of these fish will be seen. (33 m)
– Hanga Piko : The second most important cove of Easter Island. Here we find different types of coral beginning at 10 m depth.
– Motus : Motus are islets in the Rapa Nui language, and these 3, motu nui, motu iti and motu kao
kao, are ideal to do a wall dive and a deep dive, with a maximum of 40 m, in which you will see species that are not usually seen in the rest of the dive locations. Here we can see grey sharks, nanues fish of different colors, yellows, blues, and a large variety of schools of fish.
In all the dive locations we will see a large variety of coral and colored fish, and dives can be done to different depths, which makes them accessible for divers with different experience levels.
